Second Annual I Love Yarn Day Community Blanket Marathon 2013
Date(s) - Fri, October 11, 2013 - Sat, October 12, 2013
We’re doing it again, and we’d love your company!
Second Annual “I Love Yarn Day” Community Blanket Marathon
Friday, October 11 to Saturday, October 12, 2013
We’ll be Knitting another Eight-Hands-Around blanket
And this year we’re adding Crochet!
(Due to insufficient stitchers, we are canceling the crochet blanket. Maybe next year, there will be enough to make it work. meanwhile, the knitted blanket will go ahead as planned)
Starting at Noon on Friday, October 11, in the Winslow-Holbrook Square in down town Rockland, Maine, teams of four knitters will stitch in two hour shifts round the clock until Noon on Saturday, October 12, 2012.
When the blanket is finished, we will display it at Over The Rainbow Yarn, 18 School Street, Rockland, Maine and we will raffle it off. Raffle tickets will be available during the Marathon, and at Over The Rainbow Yarn and other locations until Rockland Main Street Festival of Lights. At The Festival of Lights, we will draw the winning raffle ticket and one lucky recipient will go home with a beautiful blanket.
While the stitchers are stitching, local non-profits will be accepting votes in the form of non-perishable food items placed in their decorated boxes in the square. The non-profit with the most food items (by number not weight) will receive all the proceeds from the raffle. All the non-perishable food will be given to the AIO Food Pantry.
It’s a win/win…win/win/win! AIO gets the food, a non-profit gets the money, somebody who will love it gets the blanket, and we get to knit! It’s truly a community event.
You can sign up for more than one shift if you like. Only the most basic skills are required. If you know how to work a knit stitch, you’re in. Just one note of warning:those who knitted the Marathon last year had such a good time, they are already flocking to sign up for a shift, so sign up early. You won’t want to miss it!
